TAIPEI WITH FANCL

TAIPEI WITH FANCL

I can’t believe that it’s been 3 months since I went to Taipei with Fancl. Is it just me, or do you find that time is absolutely flying by like crazy this year? I’ve been meaning to blog about this trip because we went to so many amazing places that I have to share with all of you. So, here goes!

Hello, 2015!

It’s 4 days into the new year and I’m finally sitting myself down to write my resolutions for 2015. As I’ve mentioned on my Instagram account, 2014 feels like such a blur and I can’t believe how fast the year passed. I did so many things last year and I’m so thankful for all the amazing opportunities and experiences. 2014 was a year of learning, growing, settling down and what-I-call, transitioning into ‘adulthood’. It was a year which I learned a lot more about myself. It was also a year of risk-taking and chasing my dream with Wardrobe Theory. It’s been quite a year and 2014 feels like a lead up to a huge year that I’m going to have this year.
I’ve got a new house coming, a wedding and a business to build in 2015. Major stuff. To be honest, I get scared sometimes thinking of these big things that will be happening, but I constantly remind myself not to be with one of my favourite quotes, ‘a head full of fears has no space for dreams; fate favours the fearless’. To help myself get there to fulfil my goals and dreams, I’ve set a couple of resolutions.
1. Be more discipline. This is a broad resolution that will help me achieve what I want to achieve this year. I think this practise should apply to all aspects in my life – to be more disciplined with checking off to-do lists and getting work done, be more disciplined with exercising, be more disciplined at motivating myself, and to be disciplined to not procrastinate. I read somewhere that one habit of successful people is to not procrastinate the small things, and to do them immediately to clear them out of the way. If it takes less than 2 minutes, then do it now. I’ve been trying to practise this habit since 2014 and I’ve been feeling more accomplished already.
2. Stay positive and be happy. This year, I want to learn to stay positive even in the most dire of situations and to enjoy and be happy with the small things. I’d like to think that I’m usually quite positive, but I have to admit that I do let things get to me and get me down sometimes. I’d like to change that this year and make the most of everyday.
3. Eating healthier and exercising. Now that I’m a bit older, I’m seeing and feeling how this can impact and affect my overall well-being. I’m not one to abstain completely from certain types of ‘bad food’. Knowing how much I like to eat junk food and sweets, it’ll be impossible for me to not have them completely. I’d probably go crazy with the cravings one day and overstuff my face with sweets if I do that. I believe in moderation and hope to do more of that this year and be more consistent with inculcating foods like fruits in my diet. Of course, I try…but I do hope to exercise at least twice a week consistently this year too. I do want a lean body in time for my wedding at the end of the year!
4. Spend more time with my family. I’m usually so busy that family sometimes takes a back seat in my life. I have to remind myself that whilst I’m trying to achieve things for myself, my parents and people around me are also not getting any younger. If I don’t treasure the times with them now, then when?
I end this post with another of my favourite quotes. What are some of your resolutions for 2015?

Adventures in Guangzhou

I’m tucked in bed at the Hilton, Tianhe with a cup of chamomile tea, Maxwell (one of my favourite singers) playing at the background, a snail mask on my face and writing this blog post right at this moment. Ahh…life is good.

Oh darn, I just remembered that I forgot to follow on with facial wash after my facial scrub in the shower!! I wonder if that’s ok? This skincare regime business can get so complicated sometimes. If you’re curious, I’m currently using Skin Inc’s Pure Prodew Cleanser, La Mer’s Refining Facial Scrub – I usually leave this on for about 5-10 minutes and then remove it in circular motions. It really gets rid of grime, and makes it easy to pop stubborn blackheads after. I major love this scrub.

I’m here in Guangzhou for a little pet project of mine that I’m super excited about but will keep it a ‘lil secret until I’m ready to share with everyone. This is not my first time in Guangzhou and there’s really not much to do or sightsee so I’m spending most of my time here in my room working on my project. It feels like I’m having a mini staycation with lots of me time.

I met with Stephanie today and she took me for hi-tea at the Four Seasons Hotel on the 70th floor. The view up there is amazing. Check out my first photo! We spent a good couple of hours taking in the view and chatting over bite-size savouries and sweets. We went to Taikoo Hui Mall after (the mall’s name is funny isn’t it? It makes a lot more sense in Mandarin) where most of the big brands are at. I noticed that a lot of coveted designer products were available at this mall. The Chanel Boy bag was available in many styles and colours and I spotted the furry monster and the Karl Lagerfeld keychain at Fendi. This mall also houses Bread Talk, Crystal Jade and Food Junction…very Singaporean. I first thought that it was a Singapore collaboration – apparently not. Stephanie took me to Mei Xin Restaurant opposite the mall after some shopping ( I may have remembered the name wrongly) where we were joined by her husband. I had the best roast goose there! I’m salivating just thinking about it.

Oops! It’s 2am, so I’d better stop thinking about food and head to bed. Off to wash off this snail mask off my face. Goodnight!

L’Oreal Butterfly Mascara and Gelmatic Pen Liners Review

I recently got my hands on the new L’oreal Butterfly Mascara and Gelmatic Pen Liners (thank you L’oreal!) and played around with them, trying to create different looks for myself. For those who know me personally, you’ll know that I’m pretty much a one trick pony with makeup. I use black liquid eyeliner and draw wing tips for my eyes – that’s about it. I don’t work with colours and eyeshadow much because I find it too tricky and I usually end up looking like a mess if I try and play with too many colours on my eyes.
I was pleasantly surprised when I worked with the Gelmatic Pen Liners. I am no expert with the many colours and was drawing mostly with blind faith, overlapping colours, trying to remember tips I picked up along the way about highlighting the corners of the eyes with whites, darks at the ends, etc. The liners were so easy to use! They glided on so smoothly and I created 4 different looks for myself easily and really quickly too – no messiness involved. I’ll share the looks I created in a bit. First, I’ll start with the review of the Butterfly Mascara.
The Butterfly Mascara has a revolutionary Butterfly Brush  with asymmetrical lash line shape that extends and lifts outer corner lashes to give you a winged-out effect, instantly volumizing lashes at the roots and stretching lashes outward. The unique Cocoon Fibers instantly wrap lashes in a soft, delicate veil to create silky, spectacular lashes that flutter.

Here are my eyes, sans makeup.

The mascara was easy to use and most importantly, did not clump. I put on 2-3 coats. The brush caught the lashes easily, and even worked on the shorter lashes at the end.

Here are the results. I really like how the mascara separated my lashes and made my lashes fan outwards and up. Plus, it lengthened insanely! It almost looks like I’m wearing false lashes. What a dramatic difference when compared with the picture of my eyes without makeup.
My lashes look so long, thick and dark. 🙂
Fluttery lashes! I had so many people compliment on my lashes when I went out with the butterfly mascara and the curl held up really well all day.

Overall Verdict: This is the holy grail mascara. It stays on all day without smudging, holds up curl really well, does not clump, separates and gives volume to my lashes. A must-try!
Here’s moving on to the review of the Gelmatic Pen Liners,
This is L’Oreal’s first gel eyeliner in a pen format.
It’s an automatic crayon twist type pencil with no sharpening and with a precision tip for easy application. These are the 6 different shades available: black, gold, blue, silver, turquoise, brown.
I grouped the colours in cool and warm tones to create different looks.
Warm tones.
Colours I used for the first look.
I lined my top lash line with turquoise and black, and used the silver and blue on my lower lash line. It was so easy to work with the liners! The colours glided on super smoothly and I got the wing tips at the first go. With liquid liners, I sometimes have to re-draw them a couple of times to get them right.
Look how intense the colour pigments are.
Ta-dah! Here’s the first look. I’ll wear these colours and re-create this look for fun parties and nice dinners.

Look 2
For the 2nd look, I worked with the same colours as the first and dramatized the colours and look by thickening the lines.

The blue and turquoise colours are so so pretty.

I used more of the black liner for drama.

I’ll take this 2nd look to parties and drinks!

Look 3

For my 3rd look, I worked with the brown and silver pen liners.
I saw a Michelle Phan makeup tutorial on puffy, Korean ‘aegyo-sal’ eyes and tried to re-create the look by lining my upper eyelid with the brown liner and drawing a thick line on my lower lash with the silver to create the illusion of puffiness.
Here’s how the liner on my upper lid looks.
There! I don’t think I quite perfected the ‘puffy eye’ look no thanks to my less than adequate makeup skills, but I still like the overall look nonetheless! It’s perfect for days when I wanna look sweet and demure. Haha.
Look 4
For the final look, I worked with the brown and gold liners.

I lined my upper lid with brown and gold, and used the gold again on my lower lash with some of the brown at the ends.

I’m going to wear this look for Chinese New Year! The gold and brown matches the reds of CNY perfectly.
Overall Verdict: These pen liners are my newfound love. I wore them for the whole day and they didn’t smudge, I had no liner prints on my lids (my lids can get oily and I tend to get these line imprints when I use pencil liners), and best of all, they’re so easy to use (glides on mess-free) for a makeup noob like me. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the colours are so very pretty!
