Singapore International Film Festival

I attended the opening screening of the Singapore International Film Festival today. Creative Room, the production house that I worked with for the Citibank advertisement, “Broken Shoes” very kindly invited me along as it was also the first screening of the advertisement.
The opening film – “Sincerely Yours”, was a story that dealt with issues such as love, survival and the fighting spirit of humans. Such raw portrayal of real life always gets my mood a bit low. Anyway, it was a good watch nonetheless, and inspiring to see so many passionate film makers come together. It’s all for the love of film and making them!
If you’re interested in catching any screenings, do log on to http://www.filmfest.org.sg/index.php for more details. 🙂

My Yesterday

Does green tea contain caffeine? I was always under the impression that green tea is free of it. I’ve learnt the hard way. I drank a whole pot last night, and spent the rest of the night being very much awake, trying to force myself to sleep. Very torturing! I’m sure many of you have experienced such nights.

I really tried hard to sleep because I will be on shoot for REM tonight – overnight from 10pm to 7am! Even taking melatonin pills didn’t help. I was way too wired. I’m definitely feeling knackered now, but still not sleepy…I expect myself to be thrashed at shoot tonight. Well, least I know that green tea will help me keep awake now…Very awake. :S

Since I was So awake last night, I decided to re-design my blog banner. Voila! A new birth! I’m still trying to decide if I like it enough, but it shall stay for now…till the next improvement, or not. 🙂

Back to the green tea story, I was drinking so much of it because I made onigiri yesterday. Green tea goes well with Japanese food obviously, so…I was downing it with (too much) gusto. It was my first try at making onigiri. I really wanted mine to turn out pretty and authentic looking like those below. But, I realised how difficult it was without a proper onigiri mould. 😦 It was really difficult to squeeze the rice and ingredients into shape with bare hands. The rice would either stick to my hands (despite having already soaked my hands in salt water), or the ingredients will be falling all over the place. In the end, I ended having to use a round mould (the only one I could find). You would probably have guessed that yes, my onigiris were not very pretty. I tried making up for the lack of looks with taste though, and stuffed them with tuna mayonaise, teriyaki beef and unagi. I wished I remembered to take some pictures of my first attempt!

In all, I still think that the taste didn’t quite suffice the lack of looks. But, I’ve still got a whole bag of Japanese rice to try. Next time will surely be better, hopefully! 🙂

P.S Thanks Benji, Domo is definitely better! His ears are ok now, and he is definitely less itchy. 😀 Yay!

Morning Ritual

I love waking in the mornings with Domo snuggling up beside me. He usually comes right up to my face to check if I’m awake. Sometimes I pretend to be asleep and he’ll flop quietly beside me so as not to disturb. But once I show any slight sign of being up, he’ll come to me excitedly and start kissing (licking) my face. Very cute. 🙂

When Night Falls…

It brings along emptiness and loneliness.
I tuck myself in early,
To try and sleep away the darkness.

With moist eyes,
I finally succumb to the melatonin at work –
Only to face the terrors of a restless mind in sleep.
I gasp awake at the wrenching of my heart that shoots through my being,
And find myself back at square one…

Longing, and counting sheep.

😦

Domo!

sleepy Domo

I brought Domo to the vet, and my poor boy has quite a few problems of late. He had ear infection again after returning from the groomer’s. There’s something not quite right the groomer is doing and I’m really looking into changing a groomer for him. If anyone knows a groomer who does poodles well, please let me know!

Also, the vet deduced that Domo has very sensitive skin (just like his daddy…). His skin flares up easily and he gets rashes and scratches himself incessantly. Sigh…the vet and I are trying to work something out to find out the root problem. Domo may be allergic to certain kinds of food, or perhaps its the heat, or maybe it is inborn. The vet suggested I stop feeding him freshly cooked beef and vegetables and stop giving my boy snacks. He wants us to put Domo solely on dried pet food. Domo is surely going to be a really really miserable boy. 😦
Also, Domo has a rather gassy and sensitive tummy. He gets bloated and farts really really smelly farts! (again, like his daddy..haha) Domo is basically showing signs of all hereditary poodle breed problems. Really worrying! He has a whole bunch of medicines and pro-biotics for all his problems. It pains me…and I wonder what I’m doing wrong for him sometimes. Or maybe, he just has lots of inborn problems. 😦
I just showered him with this special shampoo that is supposed to calm his skin. It seems to have worked, because Domo was surprisingly calm after his shower…even after I blow-dried him with the hairdryer. Usually, he gets into a crazy frenzy after and tosses around really crazily like he is really irritated. I guess, this mild shampoo is really helping calm his skin.
I’m keeping my fingers and toes really really crossed that all these supplements and medications are going to help him. He is a really strong, healthy boy in every other sense…I just hope his skin, ear and tummy problem goes away completely.
He has brought so much sunshine and smiles to my life. Even my mum, who used to forbid me from keeping dogs love him to bits. You know, I try and come home early or stay home just for him sometimes. Haha…Get well soon Domo!! xxx
Domo was named after the cartoon monster – Domo Kun. Rahhhhhhrrrrrr!!!!***
According to Wikipedia, “Domo-kun is known to pass gasrepeatedly when nervous or upset.” Haha…How apt!!
