A Review Of My Anti-Aging Facial Treatment at JHGC

I went for an anti-aging facial treatment at JHGC recently. Called the IGF-1 Triple Effect Therapy, it’s a newly launched facial therapy from Japan.

JHGC is a well-known hair and facial treatment centre from Japan and they’ve got many outlets all over Tokyo and other Japanese cities.
This IGF-1 Triple Effect Therapy is supposed to 1) lift your face, 2) improve your skin condition and 3) relieve shoulder aches and headaches. As I suffer from chronic shoulder aches that lead to migraines, I was really looking forward to #3.
When I arrived at their outlet at Triple One Somerset, I was first met and greeted by their very friendly Japanese Salon Manager. How very authentic! After going through the usual facial treatment formalities and understanding what I was going to experience, I was ushered into the treatment room. I remember having a headache that day (from my shoulders) and I was really looking forward to relieve it during the treatment.

Step 01:
The therapist started the treatment with the massage right away (yay!). The massage is unlike any massages that I’ve ever had before. The therapist focused on relieving the muscles on my head and through it all, I felt a comfortable soreness and could literally feel the tension from my head and shoulders melt away.

Step 02:
Next, she removed my makeup, cleansed my face and applied the MT Exfoliator to exfoliate my skin. The exfoliator was extremely gentle and felt really soothing.

Step 03:
Then, she spread a Vitamin C Serum over my whole face and used the Agaia Plus device to shine a blue light over my face. This part of the treatment rejuvenates the skin and promotes cell reproduction in the skin.

Step 04:

She massaged my face with lifting techniques after the Agaia Plus Treatment. I really like that this treatment combines human touch and technology.

Step 05:

Finally, a facial pack was applied to my face and the Agaia Blue LED light was shone on my face for about 10 minutes.

Results

Before (with makeup)

After (without makeup)
What I first noticed immediately after the treatment was how soft my face felt and how much brighter my skin looked. It may not look like it in the ‘before’ picture as I had makeup on, but my skin was looking rather dull before the treatment. The therapist who worked on me (she’s got the best skin I’ve ever seen – poreless, clear and glowing!) remarked that after she removed my makeup.
Comparing the before and after picture, my slightly saggy jowls have been lifted and my right cheek and right eyelid (my usual trouble spots) also look more lifted than before.
It’s also been a week and my tension headache has not come back. Good riddance to that, hopefully!
If you’d like to try the treatment too, JHGC is offering an exclusive trial price of $68 (U.P.$250) for a limited period. You can call the Triple One Somerset outlet at 6499 9158 or the One Raffles Place outlet at 6830 7898 to book your appointments.

Wedding Prep [Part I]

Now that the wedding is over, I finally have some time to breathe! My tip for all the soon-to-be-brides: start your prep work early!

I already think that I started preparing pretty early, but still found myself swarmed during the final weeks leading up to the wedding. It definitely didn’t help that I was still super busy with work (boo!). Being a first-time bride (obviously!), I totally forgot and left out some of the finer details like, getting a ring pillow, ‘ang pao’ box and things like that. It’s a good thing I had an amazing bunch of bridesmaids. I had 13 in total and thank gawd for them! They reminded me of these nitty-gritty details along the way and even got me a ring pillow at the last minute. It was hand embroidered and so pretty (see picture below!). J
Amidst my crazy work schedule, wedding prep AND honeymoon prep (I wonder why I do this to myself sometimes, haha), I didn’t have much time to think about getting ME ready for the big day. I didn’t do very much for myself apart from a very last-minute facial and hens nail party (more on that later). So, I was really thankful when GNC sent me an entire set of their LAC Taut products before the wedding day. I’ve tried the Collagen Drink and Mask before and had achieved great results previously (past review here), so I was confident that I was going to experience the same or even better results with the addition of the Taut White Pills.

The LAC Taut Collagen Drink plus placenta contains a high dosage of high quality red snapper fish source plus a concentration of active placenta extract. We all know that collagen helps to plump up the skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles, while placenta rejuvenates ageing cells and damaged tissues. You know, I actually looked forward to drinking a bottle every night before bed. I felt that I was taking care of my skin from within. For someone who’s not into fussy regimes, it was so quick and easy to drink a bottle before bed. The best part? I wake up with bright skin every morning (even on days when I slept really late) and my skin looks more hydrated overall, especially on the dry areas such as the sides of my cheeks and around my lips.

The fairness of my skin could not have been achieved without the help of these Taut White Pills. I took 2 pills daily alongside with my collagen drink. These pills contain ingredients for intensive skin firming and whitening results. Again, I looked forward to taking them everyday!

Already one of my all-time favourite masks, this Collagen Infusion Mask literally lifts and gives your face a more V-shape contour. I put it on before I sleep and remove it (or sometimes it falls off when I fall asleep) without putting on any follow-on skincare products. I love how fuss-free it is!

This is me, before bedtime with the mask on. The mask sheet is really thick and it feels really good when I place it on my face. It doesn’t dry up quickly like some of the other thinner sheet masks in the market.

This picture was taken on my wedding day. It shows how much LAC Taut has brightened my complexion and made this day an even more beautiful one. I started on my LAC Taut journey 2 weeks before the wedding (so glad I did!) and I’m really happy with how my skin looks now. Even without makeup, my skin looks dewy, taut, luminous and bright (no dullness!). I’d recommend all soon-to-be-brides to get on your LAC Taut journey asap. Imagine the results I could have gotten if I started on it even earlier. Go get yours from any GNC outlets!

A Review of EVERSOFT’S New Makeup Removers (They’re 100% Organic!)

All of you probably already know how important a good cleansing regime is and how crucial it is to remove your makeup thoroughly and properly everyday before going to bed. I think that you can be lazy with your skincare on some days, but you should never be lazy with the cleansing.

I recently went away for a couple of days and skipped the makeup remover step and only washed my face with a cleanser to remove my makeup (thinking that it was light anyway) so that I didn’t need to lug an extra skincare product abroad. Big mistake – my pores started clogging and my skin started breaking out after day 3. My skin only started clearing and getting back on track after I got back and re-introduced a makeup remover into my regime.
Lesson learnt. I’ll never skip the makeup remover step again.
The good people from EVERSOFT recently sent me their new range of makeup removers – the 100% Organic Cucumber Cleansing Jelly and 100% Organic Olive Cleansing Oil. I have to admit that they got me at ‘ORGANIC’. I couldn’t wait to put the two makeup removers to the test.

EVERSOFT 100% Organic Cucumber Cleansing Jelly (150ml)

Recommended for use to remove light makeup, I tested this with my normal everyday look – waterproof eyeliner, undereye concealer, pencil drawn eyebrows and loose powder.
I removed my eye makeup on one side of my face (left face / right hand side of picture) to test. While I used a cotton pad, you can apply it directly to your face and gently massage before rinsing off.
The cleansing jelly did a very good and thorough job of removing my eye makeup, especially the waterproof eyeliner. The makeup glided off smoothly and I didn’t need to tug at my eye to remove the liner. My skin felt comfortable and refreshed after using it – possibly from the organic cucumber extract. I really like that it’s water based and not oily, and that it smells so good. (Don’t get me wrong; I think cleansing oils are great for removing heavier makeup.) The label on the bottle reads that this cleansing jelly also cools and soothes the skin.

EVERSOFT 100% Organic Olive Cleansing Oil (100ml)

I put the 100% Organic Pure Olive Cleansing Oil to the test one evening when I had heavier makeup on. I have on my face: BB cushion, under eye concealer, blusher, contouring highlighter and bronzer, eye shadow, waterproof eye liner, drawn eyebrows and red lipstick.
I used a cotton pad again but alternatively, apply and gently massage onto your face to dissolve makeup, then add water and massage again until it turns milky. Then rinse off.
Like the cleansing jelly, my makeup lifted off easily with the cleansing oil (makeup removed on right hand side of picture). It even did a good job on the red lipstick and managed to get it off fairly easily without a need for repeated swipes from the cotton pad. I like that it contains organic olive oil – we all know how good olive oil is for skin and hair, and that it moisturises and softens the skin. For its price: $10.90 for 100ml, I would definitely recommend this cleansing oil for anyone who’s looking for a hardworking makeup remover at a pocket-friendly price.
I finished off the cleansing routine with the EVERSOFT 100% Organic Mulberry Facial Cleanser. It contains Hyaluronic Acid for long-lasting hydration and Organic Mulberry Extract to brighten dull skin. My skin felt really good after using both products!
These 3 EVERSOFT products are available at selected supermarkets and personal care outlets. For more information, go to their Facebook page here. You may also check out the promotion on FairPrice online and purchase there.
If you’d like to win a bottle of the Organic Cucumber Cleansing Jelly, EVERSOFT is giving away 25 bottles! All you have to do is like their Facebook page and fill in the form found there.

A review of Lancome Advanced Genifique’s range of products

Every so often, you’ll find a great skincare product that you know you’ll keep and use for a long time to come.
The product, or rather, products in question this time around is Lancome’s range of Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate Serum, Eye Illuminator and Eye Concentrate.
I’ve mentioned many times on my blog that as age is catching up, I’m most concerned about anti-aging; to hold up what gravity is pulling downwards and to keep the fine lines and wrinkles at bay. It doesn’t help that I’ve been coping with sensitive, acne prone skin all my life. I’ve never really used anti-aging products (except for eye creams…thank goodness zits don’t grow around my eye area!) until recently, because they’ve mostly been too rich for my skin and causes my skin to breakout.
Advanced Genifique encourages women to embrace the beauty of being yourself; to activate your #youthful aura – that inner light that makes you shine. I love this key message of celebrating you and loving yourself from the inside out. It is so important for women to have self love and self worth.
They’ve picked 4 faces based on their unique inner beauty – role models who exude a quiet confidence and who are always active in a cause: Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz, Lupita Nyong’o and Lily Collins.

How It Works
Inspired by gene science, Lancome believes that the skin’s beauty is revealed through its light which naturally represents one of the fundamental signs of skin’s youth. The more radiant and luminous your skin is, the more youthful your skin looks. This light on your skin is derived from a complex interplay of surface reflection and backscattered inner light. Over time, backscattering of inner light decreases with age. A great portion of the light is trapped by melanin and your skin darkens with time.
The range of Lancome Advanced Genifique products reignite your skin’s inner light by improving the structure of the skin surface and improving the backscattering of inner light to reveal radiant, luminous, plump and healthy skin.
Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate

Affectionately known as the ‘little black bottle’, what I like most about this serum is that it feels light and is absorbed quickly into the skin. I’ve been using it for 7 days and have had no breakouts (yay!). As my skin leans towards the oily side, I’ve been skipping the moisturiser step after the serum and I use this after my toner. I tend to keep the number of steps to my skincare regime down so as not to overload my skin. So, every product that I use really need to work! For those with dry to normal skin, you can use this serum as a booster to make your follow on skincare products work even better for you. It’ll boost your skincare products by up to 3x!
In just 7 days, I’ve noticed that my skin has become brighter and is looking more radiant and my skin tone has evened out more. Even without using moisturizer, my skin stays hydrated and plump. I’ve been skipping putting on my usual BB cushion and have been going out with just a light dust of loose powder on my face. I love the freedom of not having to slather my face with make-up!
Over time, I’m also supposed to see improved skin elasticity and experience firmer skin with reduced sagginess. Can’t wait!
Advanced Genifique Yuex Light-Pearl and Yuex Eye Cream

Because I’m a huge fan and believer of eye care, these 2 products are my favourite of the lot. I’ve been using eye care products since I was a teenager and have tried all kinds from many different brands. This is the first time however, that I’m using an activator before an eye cream. Although I’ve been hardworking with my eye care for many years, no thanks to my genes, the lines and wrinkles have still been appearing. What used to be cute crinkles at the corner of my eyes when I smiled is now also known as crow’s feet. And, what bothers me the most are the fine lines that crack through my under eye concealer when I have concealer on.
So, the amazing thing with this eye care duo is that in just 7 days of use, I’ve definitely noticed that the fine lines around my eyes have reduced slightly and most of all, the lines are not cracking and peeking through my under eye concealer. I especially love the wand application from the eye illuminator and how it reaches all corners of my eye. I’m not sure if you guys feel the same way when you’re putting on something really good on your face, but it feels so good everytime I put the illuminator and cream on. I feel awesome that I’m slathering all these goodness around my eyes (ok, the most succinct word I can use to describe this feeling is, shiok! -haha-). I know that I’ll appreciate myself being hardworking in years to come.

Counting down…it’s less than 6 months to the wedding!

Oh gosh, where did all the time go. The wedding is less than 6 months away! I attended Flutters Eyelash’s 1st Anniversary party last Saturday and everyone kinda remarked that I was surprisingly cool (or too chill) about the upcoming wedding. Honestly, I’ve been so busy with Wardrobe Theory, I haven’t had much time or energy to think about the wedding. I’m leaving it all to the safe hands of my wedding planner, Clarissa from Lovorth Weddings! (I hope she’s reading this!)
Chill and all, I would still like to look really nice on my wedding day. Jon doesn’t understand why girls put in soooo much effort to look good for just one day. Someone explain to him, please! Anyhow, I kinda ignored him when he said that. I’ve got a couple of concerns for my face, so I made an appointment and went to see Dr Karen Soh from Prive Aesthetics yesterday. During our consultation, she told me that everybody will be taking pictures on the wedding day and no one (except the professional photographer) will be doing any photoshop…”so let’s get you ready and looking beautiful from all angles!”
We discussed a couple of options for me and we decided to first and foremost, start me on their Exilis Elite Treatment. The main concerns that I have for my face are:
– Drooping cheeks
– Saggy jowls
– Drooping eyelids
– Double chin
These concerns only came about in the past year or so (damn you, aging!!) and it’s showing a lot more on my right face compared to my left. I’m assuming its normal that both sides of the face age at a different rate? On normal days, I make it up by putting my left face forward in most pictures. I’ve been considering treatments such as Thermage for a while, but am so scared of the pain! So, when Dr Karen shared with me about the Exilis Elite Treatment, I was really excited. I’m supposed to achieve similar results to Thermage, without the pain and downtime.
The Exilis Treatment is supposed to contour your face, tighten your skin and improve skin laxity, rejuvenate your face by stimulating collagen production, plump your skin and reduce wrinkles and improve the appearance of dark circles.
I went for my first treatment today (I was really excited, haha) and I can’t wait to share with all of you the subtle changes that I’ve noticed already. Here’s a before/after. I took the pictures at the same spot and angle for a fair comparison.
Before
I’ve highlighted my concerns with the text. It’s obvious that my right face is sagging more than my left. 😦 I’ve got my brows drawn, eyeliner on and under-eye concealer in this picture.

After
The results I’m seeing immediately after 1 session of Exilis Treatment: saggy cheek and jowl on my right face looks slightly improved (yay!!). Overall, I’ve noticed that my skin looks tighter, fine lines especially those around my eyes have lessened, dark circles have lightened (my dark circles in the ‘After’ picture looks lighter than the ‘Before’ when I’ve got concealer on in the before picture). My eyes are also looking brighter – possibly from the lifted eyelids and tighter skin.
I’m supposed to see even more results after 2-3 days and optimal results after 6 sessions. All in time for my wedding…I can’t wait! 😀

I forgot to add!! I experienced no pain at all during the treatment. All I felt was heat – like someone was giving me a hotstone massage on my face.
