NIVEA Body Intensive Moisture Serum keeps my skin happy!

New addition to my bedside table.

I was recently sent the new Nivea Body Intensive Moisture Serum. When I first tried it on, a wave of nostalgia hit me and I was transported back to when I was little again. If you’re an 80’s kid like me, you might remember this NIVEA Crème that came in this blue metal tin packaging…

My mum religiously applied this NIVEA Crème creme everyday when I was little and I remember just sitting beside and watching her smoothed the luxurious white cream that smelled so heavenly and womanly to me all over her hands and legs. She’d let me have a go at it sometimes and on some days when she was not watching, I’d open the tin and sneak a bit of it on my legs to catch a whiff of the scent and pretend that I was all grown up. My mum -surely due to her religious application of the NIVEA Crème everyday- has velvety soft and super fair skin up till today and I’ve always wanted skin like hers. Somehow, this NIVEA Crème got lost and forgotten through the growing up years…I’m excited to ‘find’ it again and can’t wait to add it to my daily skincare regime.
What I really like about this body serum is that it’s lightweight and easily absorbs into the skin very quickly. I really dislike the heavy creams that stay on the skin and remain sticky in our humid Singapore weather. Upon application, the skin seems to ‘drink’ the lightweight body serum and my skin immediately feels refreshed, hydrated and softer to the touch.
According to what’s on the packaging, the serum contains Vitamin E+ and Grape Seed Oil. It is also the first body moisture serum with sun protection, SPF 25 PA++ (hooray to SPF!) to combat 10 signs of dry and damaged skin:
1. Flaky
2. Itchy
3. Uneven
4. Scratched
5. Rough
6. Cracked
7. Stressed
8. Dull
9. Peeling
10. Tight
I’ve been applying the serum every morning for 3 days in a row especially on my elbows and knees where the skin is rough and dry with some flaky bits.  Already I’ve noticed considerable improvements in the skin around those areas – there are lesser lines, almost no more flaky bits and and the skin feels a lot more hydrated, like the moisture is retained as compared to just superficial moisturizing.
I also like that the packaging is simple and fuss free. The flip cap top opens and closes easily and dispenses the serum with a good dosage with every squeeze of the tube. The last thing I want for a body moisturizer is cumbersome screw caps and those open tubs that run the risk of spilling when you leave it on the bed whilst moisturizing.
Thank you, NIVEA for sending this wonderful tube of goodness to me. It keeps my skin hydrated, happy and supple…and I can’t wait to share it with my mum. I’m sure she’ll love it as much as I do!

Samsung GALAXY S5 LTE

It’s been about 2 months since I’ve made the switch to the Samsung GALAXY S5 LTE and I’m happy to report and update that there’s absolute no turning back. It’s got so many wonderful features that fit right into my lifestyle; from taking pictures using the high speed camera, ultra power saving mode (I’ve raved about this in my previous post and I say it again. This feature is a lifesaver! I no longer have stressful phone- battery-about-to-die situations when I’m out.), fingerprint security and so many more.

Here’s me registering my fingerprint for the function. I swiped my finger 8 times for accuracy and security.
The fingerprint security is a super cool and convenient feature that allows you to unlock your phone with a swipe of a finger and get this: shop online and make payment via Paypal, all with one finger swipe! Someone get this phone away from my hands before I spend all my money! Haha.

Have you always wished that you could hide certain files on your phone so that nobody except you can see? The Private Mode does just that. You can separately save files including photos, videos, music, voice recordings and more in a separate folder that can only be accessed with a password.

The private mode can be switched on or off with a simple toggle. I can now lend my phone to anyone without worry of anyone accessing my private information. I do always save passwords and my everything in my phone to help my goldfish memory!

Another favourite feature of mine is the S Health, a personal fitness tracker that allows me to monitor, manage and even challenge my workout routines.
This is the main dashboard of S Health.

Pedometer is the perfect feature for me to feel less guilty when I don’t make time to workout. It tracks my daily steps count, distance walked and calories burned. So even when I’m not fully working out, I look at the calories burned from my walking around daily and feel better about myself!

The exercise mode tracks my runs and keeps track of my run duration, distance, speed, pace, calories and even elevation, calories burnt and heart rate. I love that it allows me to set goals based on time and calories to help me push myself just that little bit harder on my runs.
Did you know that the Samsung GALAXY S5 LTE is also the first smartphone in the world that allows you to measure your heart rate?

I’ve learnt that for an effective workout, you need to up your heart rate so that you burn more calories. Sometimes, it’s not how far and how long you’ve run, but your heart rate that makes all that difference. I measure my heart rate on my phone before I start a workout and track it in between and adjust the remainder of my workout time according to my heart rate. If my heart is not beating at optimal level, I’ll alter my steady jogging and combine slow jogging with quick bursts of running to push my heart rate up.

And this is my total calorie intake for today. This calorie tracker really helps me keep a conscious effort of what I’m putting into my body and gives me a good check and balance against the total number of calories that I need in a day. Most times, I try not to cheat my calorie counter and input as accurately as I can. The huge jump in calorie intake after a huge meal can get really scary sometimes! Haha.

Sometimes, I find it hard to keep checking back on my phone when I’m going for long runs on the road. The Samsung Gear Fit comes in super handy as it’s perfectly synced to my phone and the S Health function. It measures my heart rate, and does everything the S Health does on the phone.
The most convenient feature for me is the Media Controller. It allows me to control the music playing from my phone and lets me skip tracks, pause a song, etc. Plus, the Gear Fit notifies me of incoming calls, texts and emails so I don’t miss out on anything important.
Another of my favourite functions on the Gear Fit is the sleep tracker. It monitors my sleep by keeping a log of how long I’ve slept and how long I was motionless for. I’ve always been curious of my sleep patterns!
Did I also mention that the Gear Fit is super lightweight and comfortable to wear? The watch face curves nicely to fit the curvature of your wrist so it sits comfortably on your arm.
If you’re bored of your current brand phone like I was and is looking to switch, I’d definitely recommend the Samsung GALAXY S5 LTE. If you’re worried about transferring data from phone to phone, the Samsung Smart Switch app takes care of everything and allows you to seamlessly transfer all your contacts, photos, music, messages, notes, calendar and everything else from your old phone to the S5. It’s super easy! The Samsung Smart Switch feature allows easy transfer of your personal data from iCloud or via PC to your new GALAXY device and even if you are currently a non-Samsung user.
Plus, the transfer is also a breeze with the Accelerated Network Download Booster. Get this: the phone taps on both 4G LTE and Wi-Fi concurrently so download speed is super fast. Download speed is 3x faster than just using 4G LTE or Wi-Fi alone. It’s super awesome especially when I’m streaming videos on YouTube! But it only works if files are more than 30MB.
Have I also mentioned about GALAXY Life and GALAXY Gifts? As if this phone is not power-packed and bloated enough with extra apps, GALAXY Life and GALAXY Gifts offer oodles of exclusive privileges, free downloads and subscriptions.
To explain, GALAXY Life is this awesome app with exclusive personalized lifestyle content, rewards and privileges. I just spotted this privilege that I am totally going to redeem. Oooh!

A selection of deals and privileges such as this above matched to my interest is offered to me every week and redemption is super simple. I just need to show my phone to the merchant!
GALAXY Gifts is the app store on the S5 LTE. There is over US$500 worth of free content and services. A few of my favourite apps that I’ve downloaded and am hooked are NYTimes – Breaking News (free!!), Dropbox that I use daily for work – it comes with free 50GB storage for 2 years – and Evernote. Now all my notes are synced across all my devices…how I love technology!
If you can’t wait to enjoy all these benefits, I have good news to share!

Fluttery Lashes

I recently got my lashes fluttered at Flutters, the lash parlour. I’ve been hooked on eyelash extensions for awhile now just because they’re so super convenient. I used to stick eyelash falsies before the awesome discovery of lash extensions and we all know how annoying falsies can get mid-day when they start falling off and all. So, I’ve since moved on to extensions and have not looked back.
I used to have my lash extensions done at Far East Plaza. My only complain there is that the glue they use seem really harsh on the eyes. Although I’ve never experienced any aftermath irritation, but I’ve always had to use a mini fan to ‘dry’ the lashes for about 20-30 minutes after each session at the shop. If not, the glue will really sting my eyes.
This time around though at Flutters – I experienced (almost) zero irritation and stinging from the glue used for the extensions. My entire experience was super smooth and painless. The therapist took time to patiently explain the different types of extensions available, from the different lash curl types to the length of curl and fullness of the eyelashes.

It was only after I was sure of the type of extensions that I was going to have was I led to the room to start the extension process. The whole process took about an hour – I fell asleep on the comfy bed and when the therapist pronounced that I was done, I anticipated the follow on tedious procedure of using a mini fan to dry my lashes. To my surprise, I opened my eyes and felt no stinging sensation at all! She asked if I felt ok – no irritation, no stinging – and I said yes. And it was then when she told me I was done. Woo hoo! How painless!
And now I’ve got such pretty lashes~
It’s been a week since I’ve had the extensions done and they’re still going strong. A couple have fallen off – which is completely normal – but I expect this set to last for about 2-3 weeks before I head for a touch-up.
I‘ve got awesome news for my readers:

Quote my name, Jeneen at Flutters and receive:

– 10% off ala carte services and trials
– 5% off regular packages (until year end of 2014)

And here are more promotions!

P/S Did I mention that I love the vintage theme of Flutters? These are a few pictures of the shop interior that I stole off their Instagram.

Love pin-up girls!
Happy Friday everyone!
I’m off to Guangzhou today for another little adventure. 🙂

Bangkok Tales

It’s my second day in Bangkok and a large part of the day was spent at work. I come to Bangkok so often but there’s something so alluring about this city that I fall in love with it over and over again – the friendly and soft-spoken people, quaint cafes with yummy food, the mix of high and low fashion and so much more.
Today, I had a delicious lunch of Tom Yum Goong and fusion Pad Thai at Another Hound Cafe (under the Greyhound group), snapped some OOTD shots at Siam Square – I super love the white wedges that I’m wearing from Pedder Red. I’ve got the same style of shoes in cobalt blue and leopard print. They’re so super comfortable and easy to dress up or down with. Sneaked in a cinnamon bun mid-day with a latte and it was so yummy.
Ended the day at the vintage flea market, Made By Legacy that only happens twice a year (lucky me!) and had so much fun trawling vintage treasures and drinking sangria. Of course, I had to have another foot massage before popping back to the hotel. Is there such a thing as too many massages?!

Happy Feet :)

I’m here in Bangkok over the weekend and just had a super awesome foot massage. I’ve tried many many foot massages here in Bangkok before and this is probably one of the best I’ve had. The massage parlour is not super fancy – it’s clean and slightly nicer than most massage parlours littered all over Bangkok. All credit goes to the therapist, Kan. She hit all the right points on my foot, back and shoulders and I felt all the tension in my body literally melt away.

If you do come to Bangkok, here’s where to find her:
