I Fell In Love With Boracay

For those who are following my Instagram account, @thepinkflaregirl, you’d have seen the gorgeous pictures of Boracay (like this one below) that I posted.
Roomie, Kay Kay and I on a speedboat cruising into the sunset on our way to parasail.
I was completely blown away by the beauty of Boracay and fell absolutely in love with it.  Almost every picture taken there was completely picturesque and such a dream. Thank you Gushcloud and Tiger Air for sending us there! A big thank you too to our accomodations, The District Boracay for the wonderful hospitality. I’ll recommend this luxurious hotel to anyone who’s thinking of going to Boracay. I loved the contemporary, minimalist design, the staff are really warm and friendly, and the location is superb; it’s right by the beach. The beach is literally right outside its door step. You can trust me on The District Boracay. I’m usually fussy with accommodations.
The District Boracay – see what I mean by having the beach right at its doorstep?
There’s so much to love about Boracay – the soft white sand, clear blue waters, iridescent sunsets, yummy and affordable seafood, delicious fruit shakes (must-try!), beachside cafes…and the people are generally nice and friendly too. You don’t get shot dirty looks when you decide not to buy something from a shop. Water sports and activities are also affordable, the beach not overcrowded and it’s easy and convenient to get around. Most places are walkable, or you can hop onto a tuk tuk (similar to Bangkok’s) to take you to your destination. Oh, and massages are very affordable too! I was getting foot massages everyday when I was there (super happy!). I’ll recommend that you hit ‘Manggo Spa’ located along the beach at Station 2. The spa premise is very clean and the prices are affordable. I paid 490pesos (about S$15) for a foot massage. We tried some dodgy massage shops. Although cheaper, but the experience was definitely less pleasant. Also, as travel time to Boracay is quite long (we took a 4hr flight, 1.5hr bus ride, half hour ferry ride and then 15 min bus ride to get to our hotel), so I’ll recommend a longer stay there – at least 3 full days or more.
These are some activities that I did and recommend:
Snorkling and Island Hopping
I didn’t quite enjoy the snorkling – the water wasn’t very clear and there weren’t many variety of fishes. We spotted 1 rainbow coloured fish and lots of clown fishes. Getting to Puka beach however, was completely worth the trip. Puka beach is absolutely beautiful. I’ll let the pictures do the talking.
Kay Kay, Joanna, Valerie, Szes, Jolene, Lucinda and Sheena – before hitting Puka beach.
It reads, ‘PUKA’ if you’re wondering what the sticks are.
With Nicole, Serene, Melody, Joanna and Tricia

Mandatory jump shot at the beach! (we took jump shots at our last Gushcloud trip to Bali last year too) From left to right: Sheena, Rosanne, Me, Kay Kay, Melody, Tricia, Serene, Lucinda, Kife, Szes, Jolene, Valerie, Fiona, Nicole, Joanna, Lydia.

With the Gushcloud team, Audrey, Xuen, Sheena, Jasmine and Freda.

ATV

This was one of my favourite activities. I was so wishing that I could go a lot faster with the ATV vehicle, but we had to be in one line. We drove up and did a mini hike up to the highest point of Boracay. Again, it was absolutely beautiful.

The ATV vehicles

The view from the top.

Check out Serene’s hair that completed the ‘E’! Oh why was my ‘L’ lopsided. 😦
Helmet Diving

As I posted on Instagram, those who dive for real will probably find helmet diving really gay. But it was my first time so deep underwater – 5m, walking on the ocean bed and feeding fishes. So fun! You wear these huge helmets (that are super heavy) with tubes attached and you can breathe completely normal and not get your face and hair wet at all underwater.

The helmets
Us all underwater.
Here’s a short video to give you a sense of what helmet diving is like.
Parasailing
Definitely my favourite activity. It was so surreal and calming to be up so high and again I say, the view was magnificent. Although Kay Kay and I did have a somewhat physics discussion of what would happen if the parasail ropes snapped and we tumbled into the sea and we were worried about how we were going to land at first because we had no clue and were slightly scared. We eventually found out that we landed really gracefully with the speedboat reeling our line in slowly till our feet touched the boat. Phew! Oh, and you have to do this at sunset! It’s makes the whole experience even more amazing with the view.

With Althea, Freda and Kay Kay on the speedboat.

And off we went!
Higher…
…and higher…
Food Recommendations:
It was superb traveling with Lady Iron Chef because he’ll have his readers recommend the must tries and would have done his homework before helping us decide where to eat.
Mesa

Located at Station 2, the menu had a wide selection of Filipino cuisine with a hint of Asian fusion. I’ll recommend the salted egg rice, seafood platter, and curry pork dish. The pork leg was supposedly recommended, but it failed to live up to its standards. Food was overall good and the ambience was nice.
Talipapa Market

Awaiting our food at Talipapa Market. No doubt a bunch of bloggers we are – we  whip out our phones at every chance!
A shot with Melody whilst waiting for our food.
This place has an interesting concept where you have to buy your seafood from the various stalls at the market and then bring it to a separate restaurant to have them cook for you. Seafood is definitely very fresh, but you have to haggle prices.
Cyma Greek Taverna
Located at D’Mall, Station 2. The rib eye steak and crab pasta is a must-try. The steak is super juicy and tender, and the crab pasta is super yummy.
Before I end my post, you can stand a chance to win tickets to Boracay and experience all the wonderful things I did! Tiger Air is giving out $1 million worth of flights in their year-end draw. 100 lucky travellers will walk away with $10,000 worth of flight credits each and every booking you make gives you 1 chance in the draw! Till we meet again Boracay!

Enroute to Fit & Fabulosity with Amore Fitness!

If you’ve been following my Instagram feeds (@thepinkflaregirl), you’ll notice that I’ve adopted a more ‘fit & fab’ lifestyle of late. I’ve started working out at Amore Fitness with a Personal Trainer (*gasp!!) and have been trying to attend their fitness classes on top of my 2x weekly work-out sessions. 3 cheers for me! 😀
This post is more an introduction to Amore, my first meeting with my personal trainer and a little insight of first introductory meetings for first-timers at Amore.
Here’s what went down during my 1st fitness assessment/work-out session with my very very gorgeous and inspiring Personal Trainer, Nani.
Singapore’s leading fitness and spa service provider, Amore has got 16 fitness and spa clubs strategically located island-wide. My location of choice is Bugis Junction because it’s located nearest to where I live. I know I’ll be so much more motivated to go because it’s near home. My word of advice is to choose an exercise venue closest to your work/home…so you’ll never have any excuses for yourself.
First, I had to fill up a Health/Medical Questionnaire.
Here’s Nani, my Personal Trainer going through the questionnaire with me and understanding my current lifestyle, health, fitness goals, etc. She also talked me through what to expect from the trainings and the various type of fitness classes available.

Taking my weight and body composition (fat vs muscle) analysis. I was almost afraid to step on this machine for the fat analysis!
Body composition analysis in-progress.
 And here are my results.
Weight: 44.7kg
Skeletal Muscular Mass: 17.3kg
Body Fat Mass: 11.8 kg
BMI: 17.5
Percent Body Fat: 26.5%
I was under the normal range for every category except….Body Fat Mass and Percent Body Fat (I hovered towards the high side!!)! Geez, the results were brutally honest. Slightly sheepish, I swore to change all these in 3 months.
Fitness Test

First thing I had to do was hold on to a clicker/metronome device and step up and down to the beat. I think I was closing my eyes because I was tired already??
Nani, demonstrating the right posture for the next bit of the fitness test – push ups. She did them effortlessly of course.

 My turn!

Haha, here’s me caught on camera struggling (and Nani being very encouraging)! I can’t remember how many push-ups I managed, but I’m sure it wasn’t many. Arm strength is obviously not my core.
Hard work…and it’s only the fitness test?!
Sit-ups were next, and here’s Nani demonstrating once again. It’s so important to have someone show and help you with your posture when you’re exercising so you won’t hurt yourself!

 Getting my flexibility tested.

 Results chart.

Having my results analyzed. Yes, they all ranged from average to poor. 😦 ….as expected!
Nani and I talked through my fitness goals – I wanted to get a lot more lean and toned, and to increase my stamina and strength.
With clear goals set, we embarked on our first fitness session together. This was me on the treadmill warming up before we hit the weights and static exercises.

Argh…I can do this!
I’ve since attended 4 personal training classes and 1 fitness class from this 1st fitness analysis/training session. Below are more pictures of what we usually do in a typical PT session. 20 mins run on the treadmill to start for warm-up, followed by weights and static exercises with lots of stretching in between. Nani has been completely awesome; encouraging and always there to lead and guide.
Working on the back and arm muscles.

Stretching.

Squats.
I’ve also been recording my daily food intake. This really helps me eat cleaner and not binge on snacks so much (which I love). I feel really guilty these days to list on paper: fries, chips, sweets and all the bad stuff!
This is my goal in 3 months. Ooh those abs. Nani says, yes it’s possible!
GO me!
Here’s a peek inside a fitness class.

Amore has 8 Signature classes: BellyBlitz®, BodBlitz®, BollyBlitz®, CardioBlitz®, CardioLatino®, FunkBlitz®, StepBlitz® and StretchFit®.

I’ve only attended the StretchFit® class so far and I love it. It combines stretching exercises with some core work-outs and focuses a lot on breathing. With the soothing music played during class, it really relaxes me after a long day at work.

Before I end my post, here’s sharing with you details of this really interesting event that Amore is holding for women only. I found out about this event from a pamphlet I picked up and love how this event is for celebrating women. Happy Chinese New Year!

Hello everyone!
Here’s wishing you a very Happy Chinese New Year!
May you all have a wonderful, prosperous, healthy, wealthy and happy year of the water snake…Huat ah!!! 😀
I hope you’re all having a wonderful New Year so far. The public holidays are definitely awesome and I’m having such a wonderful break doing absolutely zero work, stuffing my face with goodies and visiting my friends and loved ones. I know I haven’t been very active on my blog. I’m a lot more active and current on Instagram, so you can hit me up @thepinkflaregirl for ‘live’ updates and more! Do say ‘hi’ there! 🙂
Here’s my lovely family with our only grandparent left. Grandpa is 97 years old and still going strong. This CNY has been pretty low for our family as our maternal grandparents left us recently and this is the first CNY without them. We’re missing them so much and are missing their handmade ‘ngoh hiangs’, home-cooked curry and massive steamboat affair that we had every year. We hope you’re both in a happy place looking out for each other and watching over us!
Here’s my sister. 🙂
Little neice, Ashley (photo bombed by my Dad and Uncle).

Pink Flare’s Korean Fever Dress for CNY Day 1. I love the checkered prints and asymmetrical hemline on this piece.
It’s almost a month after my birthday, and I’m still celebrating. Lucky me. 🙂 I’m sharing the cake with Penny, also a birthday girl.
The must-have ‘lucky’ yu-sheng. Huat everyone!!
Not sure if you guys noticed, but I had a hair-cut/colour and changed my hair’s parting to the centre before the CNY. I’ve been meaning to try a centre part and colour my hair for the longest time and Serene (from Chez Vous Salon) did a wonderful job. So happy!
Here’s the process of getting my hair coloured and cut.

I got a light brown colour done with subtle undertone highlights. I love love love the colour (and cut)!
After:

Love that my hair is still soft and smooth after the colour. Serene did a quick colour treatment after the dyeing to seal the colour and condition the hair. Serene really understands my hair and gives me the best possible treatments and cuts so that I can maintain it daily. There’s no point in only having gorgeous locks when you walk out of the salon and having a nightmare to maintain it daily. I have natural curls in my hair, so I can’t have too many layers done or it’ll get really messy. So Serene gives me straight cuts with a wee bit of layers at the ends to show the undertone highlights. Mad props to her!

Colour Extend shampoo from Redken for luscious locks and to maintain the colour. 🙂
