I could do a post just on my birthday cakes alone. Lucky me had 4 cakes this year – the rainbow cake from my sister, the chocolate cake from BFF, Angelia, vanilla cupcakes baked by Sheena and another from my birthday celebration at Clifford Pier with my family (another post for this!). All so good, I can only watch my waistline get bigger as I indulge. I’m still polishing off cakes stored in the fridge!
I had dinner with BFF, Angelia at Prego the day before my birthday. Our better halves joined us for cake towards the end of the night. I love that Prego made a mistake on the spelling of my name – Jennen. Silly things like these really crack me up and it was such a highlight.
Jon took the day off on my actual birthday to spend it with me. The huge coincidence here is that his dad celebrates the same birthday as me. What are the odds of us both sharing the same birth date?! We started the day with lunch at Sun With Moon Japanese at Wheelock Place and then headed to the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit at Arts Science Museum. Jon found out about this exhibit from The A List Singapore, a fortnightly newsletter that tells you all about the arts and culture that is happening in Singapore. We love the magazine and follow their Instagram account (@alistsg) closely for exciting events to check out.
I opted for Indian food for dinner and we headed to Delhi Restaurant at Serangoon Road. Their food is sooooo good and I especially love their garlic naan. You should definitely check this place out if you like Indian food. We didn’t do anything particularly fancy but we both usually lead such busy lives that having a whole day to spend together was already special and so luxurious. 🙂
It feels somewhat surreal turning 33. You know how it is when you were a teenager, adults in their 30s seem really old? Haha. Well, now I’m that adult that the kids gasp in their heads and go…’soooo old’ when I tell them my age.
A couple of things that I like growing older: you’ve grown into your own skin and don’t really care much about what the world and people think of you anymore (even when you trip and fall outside, you kinda just laugh and pick yourself back up). You have a bunch of really good friends that you know are for life. The rest have kinda withered away with time and it doesn’t really bother you. You learn how to say ‘no’ a lot more than feeling obligated to say ‘yes’, which leaves you a lot more time to prioritise on things that really matter.
The downside of growing older and being an adult is, adult responsibilities. Buying a house; dealing with the housing loans, insurance, lawyers, developers and what not, marriage and all the intricacies that come with it, the thought of impending kids looming on your mind and basically just being fully in-charged of your life. No more reckless fooling around thinking that you’ve got all the time in the world. The clock is ticking!
That said, I guess life is an adventure in itself and you’ve just got to embrace it and throw yourself fearlessly and take it all in stride.
