Bad Hair Days No More!

Last Wednesday, I went excitedly to Chez Vous Salon at Ngee Ann City to get my hair fixed. By fix, I mean to get my hair from frizzy, unmanageable and unruly to soft, silky, luscious and manageable hair…all in a span of 3 hours.
Some background about my hair, I’ve always had rather frizzy, unmanageable hair. Hair treatments, spas and even the best shampoos have never quite worked to tame my unruly mane. I’ve always relied mostly on re-bonding to keep it in shape, but have never liked how flat and shapeless my hair becomes after a re-bonding session.
So here comes Chez Vous to the rescue. They told me about this treatment called, ‘Keratin’ that injects all sorts of goodness into the hair strands (keratin, amino acids + omega 6 and 9) to treat and re-store hair to its natural luscious condition. Whee! I couldn’t wait to try.
Hair Before:

See all the frizzy bits sticking out at the top?

Strange curly kink on the top right side of my hair.
Keratin Treatment Step 1:
Wash with Keratin shampoo and leave to set for 10-15 mins. Ed, the hairstylist assistant propped my head up on the sink with a ‘pillow’ so it wasn’t uncomfortable to lie at the sink for so long. I have to mention that the head massage after to wash off the shampoo was awesome!
Keratin Treatment Step 2:
Keratin application. That’s a TV in-front of me by the way. What a clever idea for salon patrons to kill time between treatments, hair dyeing and such.
Keratin Treatment Step 3:
Set the hair under the O3 machine for 10 mins.
Keratin Treatment Step 4+5 (final):
Dry and crimp.
Can you see how straight, smooth and glossy my hair is already? 😀
Hair After:

Super happy with the results. My hair has zero frizziness, is super glossy, shiny and luscious! I never thought that I’ll be able to use the word ‘luscious’ to describe my hair. 🙂
Here’s a close up shot whilst my hairstylist, Serene is cutting my hair. I snipped off about 2 inches.
Meet Serene, the stylist behind my now gorgeous locks. I’m usually very fussy about hair cuts and get really worried when I work with new stylists, but I have to say that I’m super happy with the results post treatment and cut. 🙂 Thank you Serene!! Did I also mention that Serene and Ed stayed almost 2 hours past closing time just to work on my hair? What superb service Chez Vous has got. I felt so so bad having them stay late.
Ta-dah! Meet the happy trooper with gorgeous hair. 🙂
The lovely people at Chez Vous also passed me a post-Keratin treatment care set complete with Shampoo, Conditioner and leave-in oil.
The Keratin oil is infused with argan oil. I’ve always heard good things about argan oil for hair. Can’t wait to try!
This is my hair, 3 days post treatment and cut. I’m loving it! I don’t even comb my hair when I get up these days and it falls nicely into shape…without being too flat. I’m a complete Keratin and Chez Vous convert.

Bali [KLM x Gushcloud] Part II

This continuation post to Bali Part I was supposed to have been done way earlier. However, the sudden passing of my grandfather left me really sad and busy with funeral preparations. Haven’t been in much of a mood for anything happy since, but I had a rather good dream of him last night. So, I’m feeling all better already and am ready to blog happier things.

The other gorgeous Gushcloud bloggers have finished their Bali posts long ago, so some of you may have already seen what we did and have gone through all the photo moments. But! Do look at my photo barrage post anyway…because I’m sure you can’t get enough of us! 😀
Day 3
We headed to Potato Head Beach Club at Seminyak. The club was beautiful, and the beach beside was even more gorgeous! The sand was super soft and sparkled in the sun. It was paradise on earth.

With roomie, Sophia.

The menu at the club.

Gorgeous beach.
Cutie-pie Donna.

Reiee & Tricia.

Tammy.

Carmen and Sheena.

Whoopee! We wasted no time and headed straight for the beach after wolfing down our meals!
Happy smiles. 🙂

Introducing, Eric. Love his hair!

Lone ranger on the beach. I tried to play with him, but he seemed afraid and didn’t take to me much.

Jump shots, again! Can you see the sand sparkling?

Wheeeee!

The water was so inviting, we couldn’t wait to get in. We changed and were chasing waves and having so much fun until 2 guys who are working on the beach came round to tell us not to swim in the sea because 3 guys drowned right at the spot we were at just the day before! The waves and currents are apparently too strong ! Yikes.

Funny candid.

Group shot!

And suddenly, a horse came by!

I’ve always loved horses. 🙂

Kay Kay, you so hot!

And we ended our fun at Potato Head by soaking in their pool.

We all trooped to Toya spa for a pampering session after a day in the sun. The experience there was so terrible that I didn’t take any pictures at all. Don’t go there! It’s overpriced nonsense. A complete rip off. We spent our last night clubbing at Bounty and Sky Lounge, and once again…no pictures from me. Oops…Fun night though!

Day 4

Headed to Sea Circus with the roomates the next day (we all woke up super late from clubbing the night before!).

Cute place. Pity we were so late we missed their breakfast/brunch menu. 😦
Beef sandwich and latte.

Wearing my favourite Pink Flare dress!
Outside Sea Circus. (Photo stolen off Sophia’s blog!)
Sophia and I walked around and did some light shopping.
#ootd…yes, even in Bali. Haha.
This little shop got us 2 really excited. Such pretty homeware, and cheap too! We didn’t have much time and had to rush the shopping a little. (Photo stolen off Sophia’s blog again. Not enough time to shop…let alone to take pictures! :p) We rushed back to pack our bags after and it was time to bid Bali ‘goodbye’.

Final few shots of our resort.

Back on KLM! Pity we didn’t have the time for the lounge.

We flew back on economy this time, just so we’ll know how both the business and economy classes were. Economy didn’t disappoint! Comfortable seat, good entertainment system, and yummy hot meals. 🙂

Thank you KLM, Goodway Hotel, Gushcloud and Bali for the lovely time and for being such wonderful hosts.
See you all again soon!

#iamaquitter

Cool images? No!! As much as I love fashion, I think it’s terrible when smoking is perceived and casted in a ‘cool, fashionable’ light. Smoking is not something to be celebrated, and never should be. We all know how detrimental it is to a person’s health and body when you light up. (You can read my post about how smoking affects your looks here.)

I’m sure that all of you are aware of the I Quit Campaign buzzing around Singapore. I see the campaign ads allover MRT stations. I’ve never been a smoker and thankfully, have not had anyone close to me puff away. Nonetheless, I’ve been so inspired by the many stories of smokers and their quitting journey through this campaign.

Take for example, Gisete Tay who ran and ran to get away from smoking and outran the addiction. Or Farhan, who quit for his wife and for starting a family. For whatever reasons that they, you or someone around you is embarking on his quitting journey for, I applaud you for being so brave. Also, know that you’re not alone! There’s a huge community of support available on www.facebook.com/IQUITClubGo on, check it out, and spread the word of this community to anyone around you whom you think needs support too. Even if you’re an ex-smoker and have quit for years, share your story and inspire someone too!

For a start, why not post a picture of yourself or with your family/friends with the IQuit double finger hand sign to support this cause?

#iamaquitter Are you?

You can put your picture up on instagram, Facebook or Twitter. Don’t forget the hashtag #iamaquitter !

P/S Do you know how much you can save in a year if you stopped buying a pack of cigarettes everyday? $12 x 365= $4,380! I’m sure that amount can be put to much better use than on something that kills you slowly. (Psss…that’s about the price of a Chanel bag, ladies!)

Dear Grandpa

You didn’t get well this time.
Just like I thought you would, just like you did every other time.
We stood by your bedside and watched you slip away.
I stroke your head and held on to your hand and willed for your heartbeat to rise.
I wished desperately that I could call you back, to wake up, to hang on and to fight.
Instead, I said nothing and whispered, ‘Goodbye Kong Kong, rest well. I love you, and I’ll miss you.’
It was for the best.

The clock in the main hall has been stopped to the time you left us.
A reminder screaming at us that you’re gone.
I wish that I could turn it back just a minute earlier, or maybe a couple of hours, or maybe a couple of months.
Back to when you were up and running and telling me, ‘G-neen, take care. You must save money ok? Money is hard to earn!’
Yes, that’s you.
I was so proud of my Kong Kong who spoke Queen’s English,
My Kong Kong who had perfect manuscript handwriting.
My Kong Kong who dressed smartly in shirt and pants all the time.
My Kong Kong who wore a swimming cap to sleep so that his hair would fall nice and flat the next day.

Like all regrets after you’ve lost,
I wish I had made more time for you.
I wish I had rung you up more just to ask, ‘How are you?’
I wish I had taken you out more.
I wish I had gone to the hospital earlier to see you.
I wish I had gone the day before.
I wish, I wish, I wish.

Too late for all that now.
You’ve gone somewhere where I can’t take you back.
Sleep tight Kong Kong. Be well.
Please drop by my dreams sometimes.
